Jim Morrison, born James Douglas Morrison, was born on December 8, 1943, at Brevard Hospital on U.S. 1 in Melbourne, Florida. He would become one of rock music’s most iconic and enigmatic frontmen as the lead singer of The Doors. Although local legend long claimed Morrison attended Melbourne High School and played music in garages around the 321, that never actually happened. He was born in Brevard while his father was stationed here for military training during World War II, and once that assignment ended, the family relocated and Morrison never returned.

Hulk Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, was born on August 11, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia. He grew up in Florida, where part of his early story included working at the Anchor Club in Cocoa Beach before he became famous. Hulk went on to become one of the biggest professional wrestling stars in history, helping transform wrestling into a global entertainment phenomenon through WWE and WCW. Lived and trained in Cocoa Beach during his early wrestling career before becoming a global icon. He sadly passed away on July 24, 2025, but his early Brevard County roots at the Anchor Club remain part of his Florida legacy.

Don The Dragon Wilson, born Donald Glen Wilson, was born on September 10, 1954, in Alton, Illinois. He attended Saint Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, later earned an associate degree from Brevard Community College, and also attended the Florida Institute of Technology before pursuing his fighting career. Don went on to become one of the most accomplished kickboxers in history, winning 11 world titles while also building careers in boxing, acting, and sports commentary. Before becoming famous, he also worked at the bar, The Anchor Club in Cocoa, FL alongside future wrestling stars Hulk Hogan and Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, adding another unique connection to his Space Coast-era story.

Jim Rathmann, born Royal Richard Rathmann, was born on July 16, 1928, in Alhambra, California. He later became closely tied to Brevard County, where he owned a dealership in Melbourne, Florida, built friendships with astronauts, and lived in Indialantic. Jim went on to become one of the most accomplished race car drivers of his era, best known for winning the 1960 Indianapolis 500 and earning a lasting place in American motorsports history. He passed away in Melbourne, Florida, in 2011, but his connection to both racing and the Space Coast remains part of his legacy.

Zora Neale Hurston

Zora Neale Hurston was born on January 7, 1891, in Notasulga, Alabama, but part of her story is tied directly to Eau Gallie, Florida. She lived in a cottage on Guava Avenue and Fifth Street in Eau Gallie, first in 1929 and again in 1951, and her time there became part of her Florida legacy. Zora went on to become one of the most important American authors, anthropologists, and folklorists of the Harlem Renaissance, writing landmark works that preserved Black Southern life and culture. Her connection to Guava Avenue in Eau Gallie remains an important part of the Space Coast’s literary history.

Al Neuharth, born Allen Harold Neuharth, was born on March 22, 1924, in Eureka, South Dakota. He attended the University of South Dakota, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and later became closely tied to Brevard County through his media work and life in Cocoa Beach. Al went on to become the founder of USA Today and also helped shape the Space Coast media landscape by launching Florida Today in Cocoa, Florida. His impact on journalism and his deep connection to Brevard made him one of the most influential media figures linked to the Space Coast.

Buzz Aldrin, born Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr., was born on January 20, 1930, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. He attended the United States Military Academy and later earned a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Buzz went on to become one of the most important figures in Space Coast history as the lunar module pilot of Apollo 11, the mission that launched from Kennedy Space Center and made him the second person to walk on the Moon.
